Pope Benedict – Bond Villain (Emily Gough / Something For The Weekend Presents Abie Philbin Bowman)

By | Published on Tuesday 16 August 2011

On the rainiest night Edinburgh has seen in a while, the soaking audience crowded into an inflatable Igloo in the bustling Pleasance courtyard to watch a 30-year-old Dubliner joke about atheism and global-warming. Abie Philbin Bowman started well on what is a very lucrative topic for many comedians. However, this act soon turned into a rant, and while many comedians aim to convey a political message in their act, only some manage to be funny at the same time. Sadly, Philbin Bowman failed at this. Nevertheless, any comedian who can rightfully say they’ve been endorsed by Osama Bin Laden deserves some credit (but you’ll have to go and see the show to hear that story).
