Parris And Dowler: Special Delivery (Rachel Parris and Matt Dowler / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Julian Benson | Published on Tuesday 16 August 2011
Adamantly not a double act, ‘Parris And Dowler’ are a comedy singer and impressionist respectively. Mocking and irreverent throughout their set, they’re great to watch and get a lot of laughs. Endearing herself to her audience through sheer awkwardness, Parris’ songs and poems, whilst not uproariously funny, leave you wearing a painfully wide grin. Dowler has a tricky job in finding targets for his impressions; the best are well-known, but not obvious. He doesn’t always succeed, resorting to the highly mock-able likes of Michael McIntyre, but there are many others well worth our admiration. Most impressive is his Gregg Wallace which has the audience cracking up. Finally, the pair’s duets are the show’s highlight and should be developed.
