Morris & Vyse: Daylords Return (Morris & Vyse / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Julian Benson | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Shamelessly crude throughout, this pair of comedic character actors can be difficult to stomach. Yet through paedophile jokes, racist accents, and a bit about blind Chinese singers, there are some decent aspects to their performances. The tension between the two central characters – two daytime television hosts around whom the whole show hangs – is well captured. Called ‘Return’ after the previous series was cancelled following an ‘accidental’ stabbing, the two are forced to remain together throughout the show; the tension slowly ramps up throughout the hour, till a climactic ending involving stamping on a kidney. With a range of widely different characters there is a lot going on in this hour, just nothing particularly funny.
