Encounters – Theatre Uncut

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Inspired by the government cuts, this rehearsed reading was one of the strongest productions I’ve seen. Comprised of eight short plays from new writers, the production uses the barest of stages and simplest of props, yet the actors bring immense power to the pages; ‘The Fat Man’ received groans of anger from the audience as we were told how much the big corporations and banks had deceived us. It wasn’t new information but it managed to be delivered in such a way as to make the anger fresh. Released just before the protest in March, these plays are free to be performed by anyone, meaning Theatre Uncut is a movement which is becoming ever more relevant.

Traverse Theatre, 22 Aug, times vary, £6.00 – £10.00, fpp259.
