Dregs (CKP with Dawn Sedgewick Management and The Richard Stone Partnership)
By Julian Benson | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Miss after miss, these weak sketch performers weren’t able to adapt their performance to the tone of the room, meaning a steady decline in the audience’s energy. Though sounding good, the script was full of punchlines which fell flat: mostly because they were obvious, or unjustifiably crude, or because they’d been announced to the audience before the sketch began in an effort to heighten the humour, which which in effect punctured the sketch. However, their final sketch showed promise; their technician reads the prologue from ‘Richard III’ whilst they pull people out of the audience to make them play parts of the set. It was a great juxtaposition of action and words and it would have been good to see this ingenuity throughout.
