Channel Hopping! (Bristol Improv)
By Lauren Kelly | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
This TV-based improv mimics the way we switch between channels, with each new game based on a different programme or genre. The routines progress from a music channel-inspired warm-up game, which gets the audience beat-boxing, to a condensed episode of an entire TV programme. The performers are likeable and cope well with the pressure which comes with the improv territory – the characters and scenario of course specified by audience members. However, some performers are definitely funnier than others, and they lack the group chemistry of a seasoned troupe of improv performers. The sluggish lighting was an irritation to our otherwise cool and in-command compère. Bristol Improv have potential but it might be a while before they make their real small-screen debut.
